Summit -85ºC Ultra Low Chest Freezer Description:
Accucold introduces a new series of ultra low temperature chest freezers designed for reliable storage at -85ºC for laboratory, life science, and other institutional settings.
Manufactured for Accucold in Denmark by ELCOLD, model Summit LAB11 -85ºC Ultra Low Chest Freezer offers 4.8 cu.ft. of storage. Extra thick 4 1/2″ insulation and static manual defrost operation help to maintain ultra low temperatures suitable for maintaining the integrity of biological samples, industrial materials, laboratory specimens, select vaccines, and other materials with highly specific cold storage requirements. Two inner lids offer added protection by shielding contents when the outer lid is opened. The digital microprocessor controls are mounted in the front for convenient access. This unit has a temperature range that can be set between -50 and -85ºC, with a display viewable in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The thermostat’s high/low temperature alarm warns if the interior goes out of the set range. There is also an audible 9V battery-powered alarm in the rear of the unit that will sound in the event of power failure.
For added convenience, the Summit LAB11 4.8 Cu.Ft. -85ºC Ultra Low Chest Freezer comes with pre-installed casters, including two front locking wheels to help keep the unit in place. The easy-grip handle includes a factory-installed keyed lock for added security. We also offer this unit with a set of 9 vertical stainless steel box racks (see model LAB11R9).
The LAB11 is UL listed for use in the US and Canada, and also meets ANSI/NSF-7. Additional sizes will be available soon.

Product FAQ
What is the LAB11 and what is it used for?
The LAB11 is a 4.8 cu ft (~136 L) ultra-low temperature chest freezer engineered to reach as low as approximately -85 °C, designed for laboratory, life-science, clinical and medical-grade cold-storage of biological samples, select vaccines, chemicals and other materials with strict temperature requirements.
What are the key technical specifications?
• Capacity: 4.8 cu ft (~136 L).
• External dimensions: Height ~92 cm (36.25″) × Width ~72 cm (28.5″) × Depth ~71 cm (28.0″); depth with handle ~76 cm (30.0″).
• Temperature range: programmable from about -50 °C to -85 °C.
• Electrical: 115 V AC / 60 Hz; Amps ~5.3; Weight ~82-180 kg depending-spec.
• Defrost: Manual.
What safety and monitoring features are included?
Features include: ultra-thick insulation (~4½″ walls), dual inner lids to minimize ambient air intrusion, digital microprocessor thermostat with external display (± ° C or °F), audible high/low temperature alarm, power-out battery alarm, factory-installed keyed lock, pre-installed casters (front two locking) for mobility.
Which environments is this unit best suited for?

Shipping FAQ
How long does shipping take after placing an order?
Typical shipping lead time is rapid when in-stock (the product page notes “Next day shipping” may be possible) but actual transit depends on carrier and destination.
Is international shipping available and what should I consider for Melbourne, Australia?
Yes — international freight is possible. For delivery to Melbourne, Australia consider:
• Import duties, customs clearance & Goods & Services Tax (GST)
• Site access & clearance: doorway width, corridor/elevator access and floor-loading capacity
• Electrical/mains compatibility: this unit is specified for 115 V AC / 60 Hz (US version) — in Australia (230 V /50 Hz) you must verify if a 230 V variant is available or arrange a suitable step-down transformer.
How is the unit packaged for transit and what site requirements should be met?
The unit ships palletized and boxed with protective packaging. Approx. footprint: ~92 cm H × ~72 cm W × ~71 cm D; allow clearance for lid opening and servicing. Delivery site should have a firm, level surface, sufficient entry/door clearance, and appropriate handling equipment (pallet jack or lift) if needed.
What should I do if my shipment arrives damaged or is delayed?
On delivery inspect the packaging and unit for visible damage or transit delay. If damage exists: photograph the condition, retain packaging and delivery receipt, then contact your supplier with order/tracking details to initiate a freight claim or replacement.
Application FAQ
How do I install and set up the LAB11?
1. Position the freezer on a firm, level surface in a climate-controlled room; allow clearance behind and above for ventilation, and ensure clear access for the lid to open fully.
2. Connect to a dedicated grounded outlet matching the unit’s specification (115 V AC/60 Hz). For an Australian installation verify correct variant or provide a transformer if needed.
3. Plug in the unit, power it on and set the target temperature (within the designed -50 °C to -85 °C range). Allow several hours (typically ~3-6 h) for internal temperature stabilization before loading sensitive contents.
4. Verify the digital controller/display is operational, audible/visual alarms (high/low temp, power fault) function correctly, the lock mechanism works, inner lids are fitted and airflow is unobstructed before routine use.
What best practices should I follow when storing biological samples or ultra-low materials?
• Use vertical racks if provided to organize samples and avoid over-packing; minimize lid openings to maintain internal stability.
• Label all stored materials clearly with date/time, batch or sample ID for traceability and audit compliance.
• Store frequently accessed items near the top/front to reduce disturbance of ambient air; minimize duration the lid remains open.
• Regularly inspect lid gasket/seal, hinges, wheels/casters and locking handle; maintain logs of internal minimum/maximum temperature, alarm-event history and service/calibration records if required by your facility protocol.
What should I do if a temperature excursion or power interruption occurs?
If the internal temperature rises above or falls below the safe range, or if a power interruption occurs:
• Record the event (date/time, observed temperature, impacted contents).
• Immediately relocate critical materials to validated backup ultra-low storage until conditions stabilize.
• Investigate root cause (lid left open, ambient heat load, sensor/power fault).
• Once the freezer returns to stable operation and temperatures are within range, verify materials’ integrity before returning them.
What maintenance and verification routines are recommended?
• Monthly: Inspect lid gasket/seal, hinges and lock handle for wear or damage.
• Quarterly: Clean condenser coils (if externally accessible) and ventilation pathways; ensure fan/internals are unobstructed and free of dust or blockages.
• Periodically: Test audible/visual alarms, remote monitoring ports (if present) and calibrate sensors if required. Keep service/calibration logs, internal temperature logs and alarm-event history for audit readiness.
