Product FAQ
What is the LAB11R9 and what is it used for?
The LAB11R9 is an ultra-low temperature chest freezer (4.8 cu ft / ~136 L) capable of reaching as low as approximately -85 °C, designed for laboratory, life-science, and medical storage applications including biological samples, chemicals and select vaccines/antibiotics.
What are the key technical specifications?
• Capacity: 4.8 cu ft (~136 L).
• External dimensions: Height ~92 cm (36.25″), Width ~72 cm (28.5″), Depth ~71 cm (28.0″); depth with handle ~76 cm (30.0″).
• Temperature range: approximately -50 °C to -85 °C (preset around -20 °C to -85 °C).
• Defrost type: Manual.
• Electrical: 115 V AC / 60 Hz; Amps around 5.3. Weight ~68 kg (~150 lbs).
What safety and monitoring features are included?
Features include extra thick insulation (~4½″ thick walls) for stable ultra-low temperatures, a digital microprocessor thermostat with external display, high/low temperature alarm, power-out (battery-backed) alarm, factory lock on the handle, pre-installed casters (two front locking) for mobility, and dual inner lids to minimize warm air intrusion when loading.
Which environments is this unit best suited for?
Ideal for hospital labs, research facilities, biobanks or other healthcare settings requiring ultra-low temperature storage (-50 °C to -85 °C) for biological samples or specialized materials. Not appropriate for standard domestic household freezing needs.

Shipping FAQ
How long does shipping take after placing an order?
The typical shipping lead time is 1-2 days for dispatch when in stock (U.S. region) as listed for this model.
Is international shipping available and what should I consider for Melbourne, Australia?
Yes — international shipping can be arranged. For delivery to Melbourne, Australia you should consider:
• Import duties, customs clearance & Goods & Services Tax (GST).
• Freight access: ensure door width, corridor/elevator clearance and appropriate floor loading capacity.
• Electrical/mains compatibility: This model is specified for **115 V AC/60 Hz** (U.S. version) — if installing in Australia (230 V /50 Hz), ensure you order the correct variant or provide a suitable step-down transformer.
How is the unit packaged for transit and what site requirements should be met?
The unit ships palletized with protective packaging. Approx. unpacked footprint: height ~92 cm × width ~72 cm × depth ~71 cm; allow additional clearance for lid/lift operation. Delivery site should have a firm level surface, adequate clearance for entry and for opening the lid, and handling equipment (pallet jack/lift) if required.
What should I do if my shipment arrives damaged or is delayed?
On delivery, inspect the packaging and unit for visible damage or transit delay. If damage is present: photograph the condition, retain the packaging and delivery receipt, and contact your supplier with your order/tracking details to initiate a claim or replacement.
Application FAQ
How do I install and set up the LAB11R9?
1. Position the freezer on a firm, level surface in a climate-controlled room. Allow clearance behind and above as specified by the installer for ventilation and to ensure lid-opening clearance.
2. Connect to a dedicated grounded outlet matching the unit’s specification (115 V AC/60 Hz). For Australian installations ensure correct variant or transformer.
3. Power on the unit, set the target temperature (within the designed range e.g., -50 °C to -85 °C). Allow several hours (typically 3-6 h) for the internal temperature to stabilize before loading sensitive materials.
4. Verify that the control panel/display is working, alarms (high/low temperature, power‐out) are operational, the lock and handle mechanism operate smoothly, and the casters/level are correct prior to routine use.
What best practices should I follow when storing biological samples or ultra-cold materials?
• Use the included stainless steel vertical box racks to organize samples (6×10-box shelves + 3×5-box shelves).
• Minimize lid openings and duration of exposure to ambient air; keep frequently accessed items near the front.
• Clearly label stored items with date/time, sample ID or batch number to support traceability.
• Regularly inspect the lid gasket/seal, hinges and lock mechanism; maintain logs of internal minimum/maximum temperature and alarm events if required by your facility protocol.
What should I do if a temperature excursion or power interruption occurs?
If the internal temperature rises above or falls below the required safe range, or if a power interruption occurs:
• Record the event including date/time, observed temperature and impacted contents.
• Immediately relocate critical contents to validated backup ultra-low temperature storage until conditions stabilize.
• Investigate underlying cause (lid left open, ambient heat load, sensor/power fault).
• Once the freezer returns to normal operation and internal temperature is stable within range, verify sample integrity and conditions before returning materials.
What maintenance and verification routines are recommended?
• Monthly: Inspect lid gasket/seal, hinges, locking handle and caster/level condition.
• Quarterly: Clean condenser coils (if externally accessible) and ventilation pathways; ensure airflow and fan systems are unobstructed.
• Periodically: Test audible/visual alarms, power-out battery alarm, any remote monitoring ports; perform sensor calibration if required. Keep service, calibration and alarm logs for audit readiness.
