Summit -85ºC Ultra Low Chest Freezer Description:
Accucold introduces a new series of ultra low temperature chest freezers designed for reliable storage at -85ºC for laboratory, life science, and other institutional settings.
Manufactured for Accucold in Denmark by ELCOLD, Summit LAB8R6 3.08 Cu.Ft. -85ºC Ultra Low Chest Freezer offers 3.08 cu.ft. of storage. Extra thick 4 1/2″ insulation and static manual defrost operation help to hold ultra low temperatures suitable for maintaining the integrity of biological samples, industrial materials, laboratory specimens, select vaccines, and other materials with highly specific cold storage requirements. Two inner lids offer added protection by shielding contents when the outer lid is opened. The digital microprocessor controls are mounted in the front for convenient access. This unit has a temperature range that can be set between -50 and -85ºC, with a display viewable in Celsius or Fahrenheit. The thermostat’s high/low temperature alarm warns if the interior goes out of the set range. There is also an audible 9V battery-powered alarm in the rear of the unit that will sound in the event of power failure.
We include a set of casters (two locking) for easy installation to ensure smooth mobility. The easy-grip handle is equipped with a factory-installed keyed lock for added security. This freezer ships with a set of 6 vertical stainless steel box racks (3 10-box and 3 5-box) for additional storage convenience.
The LAB8 is UL listed for use in the US and Canada, and also meets ANSI/NSF-7. For additional low temperature choices, browse the complete Accucold lineup.

Product FAQ
What is the LAB8R6 and what is it designed for?
The LAB8R6 is an ultra-low-temperature chest freezer with approximately 87 L (≈ 3.08 cu ft) capacity and external dimensions of ~92 cm H × 60 cm W × 71 cm D.
It is engineered for laboratory, life-science, or clinical applications that require storage at very low temperatures (down to −85 °C) for biological samples, select vaccines, DNA/RNA material or industrial materials.
What temperature range and control features does it support?
It offers a temperature capability from approximately −50 °C down to −85 °C, managed by a digital microprocessor controller with external display (°C/°F selectable).
It includes two inner lids, thick insulation, and a buffered probe for accurate stored-product temperature monitoring.
What alarms, monitoring and security features are included?
Includes audible/high-low temperature alarms, power-failure alarm, factory-installed keyed lock on the handle, and a battery-backed audible alarm for power-out events.
Caster wheels (front two locking) support mobility for service access.
What construction and usability features support its healthcare or lab application?
Construction includes ~11.4 cm (4½ in) wall insulation, D-shaped cooling pipes in the sidewalls for efficient heat extraction, a lift-up lid with counter-balanced hinges, steel interior and exterior, manual defrost drain, and mobility casters.
The design supports stable ultralow temperature performance and secure sample storage.
Shipping FAQ
What are the exterior dimensions and shipping weight?
Approximate external size: ~92 cm H × ~60 cm W × ~71 cm D (≈ 36.25″ × 23.75″ × 28.0″); shipping weight around ~59 kg (≈ 130 lb).
What electrical and installation requirements apply?
Operates on 115 V AC / 60 Hz with an amp draw of ~6.0 amps. Requires a dedicated grounded outlet, stable level surface and placement where air intake and lid opening clearance are maintained.
What steps should be taken during unpacking and placement?
Inspect for transit damage upon delivery; if transported on its side allow it to stand upright for several hours before powering; confirm cabinet is level; maintain clearance around lid and ventilation; test thermostat and alarm functions before loading samples.
What delivery method is typical for this model?
Due to its specialty specification, the unit commonly ships via palletized freight with protective packaging. Ensure receiving area is prepared and installation path clear and level.
Application FAQ
Is this unit suitable for ultra-low vaccine, sample or biobank storage?
Yes — the LAB8R6 supports ultra-low temperature storage down to approximately −85 °C, includes precise monitoring, alarm and security features suitable for life-science, biobank, or select vaccine storage of highly sensitive materials.
What daily best practices should be followed?
Use a calibrated data logger placed mid-height; label and rotate stored samples; avoid over-packing which may hinder airflow; minimize lid-open time to maintain temperature stability; record min/max temperature and alarm events daily as part of facility protocol.
What routine maintenance is recommended?
Clean condenser and ventilation areas semi-annually; verify alarm, probe and thermostat functionality monthly; inspect lid seal and internal insulation annually; ensure the unit remains level and casters locked when in place.
What should be done in the event of a temperature excursion or alarm?
Document date/time of excursion or alarm; relocate contents to secure backup storage if required; determine root cause (lid not closed, extended door-open, power interruption); restore target temperature range before returning samples; log corrective actions in facility log.
